Varsity Program
PCRA’s varsity team is a competitive program that sets a high standard for both personal and physical development. The program aims to represent the club at a high level at both regional and national level regattas. Rowers learn accountability, hard work ethic, leadership and teamwork.
Varsity is open to High Schoolers with previous rowing experience. Rowers will be invited to Varsity based on coaches assessment and merit. The top 50 athletes (roughly divided 50/50 boys/girls) will be invited to compete on the Varsity squad. The Varsity squad practices are 2h 30m long. The Varsity squad has 6 team practices per week. As the team approaches States and Nationals, crews may be called for additional practice if the rowers and coaches feel it's necessary. Plenty of advance notice will be given. The Varsity squad will aim to compete in every regatta. Attendance at all practices is required; absences will impact race participation.
Novice Program
Our Novice program is a competitive team that attends Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter regattas.
Novice is open to High Schoolers, and select 8th graders upon invitation from the Head Coach. The program’s main function is to prepare the athletes for Varsity level competition. The athletes will get the opportunity to represent PCRA at many of the same regattas that Varsity attends. The Novice team is capped at 40 athletes + coxswains (roughly divided 50/50 boys girls). The Novice squad practices are 1h 30m long. The Novice squad has 5 team practices per week, and a 6th workout per week expected to be completed individually. Attendance at all practices is required, absences will impact race participation.
For Summer 2020 novice athletes should register for our Varsity program. Find more information out on our Summer 2020 program page.
Development Team
PCRA’s Development team is our program for new rowers. Development team is offered in the Fall, Winter, and Spring and is a great program for young athletes looking to pick up rowing as their sport or just to try something new.
The Development squad is capped at 45 athletes (roughly divided 50/50 boys girls). Preference is given to first year athletes, and young athletes. Practices are 1h 30m long.
The Development team athletes are invited in the Spring and Fall to participate in PCRA’s Fall Grab Bag Regatta and Spring Fling. These inter-club events, held at the boathouse on Glen Island, are a fun introduction to regattas.
For Summer programming Development team athletes should sign up for our Smooth Sculling. Find more information about Smooth Sculling on our Summer 2020 Programs page.
